better days

Look at this poster. It's from WWII. Can you believe this shit? What a bunch of hippies we must have been. Thank goodness we got over that community thing, and got down to a more traditional dog-eat-dog mentality. That equality crap might be alright in Scandinavia, but it just aint natural. If God hadnt meant us to collect more than we could possibly use, he wouldnt have given us pockets.

where are you digging these up from? Northern Sun or something? Loving these images, driving a point home with these that is just sweet, man. Here's a theory, that the message won't be taken in in the way that it should because the 'boomers' in charge are still somehow rebelling against their parents, the ones who put these ideas foreward to begin with, because the 'boomers' even as they age are still hung-up on being 'smarter' or more 'enlightened' than their parents? (something that's probably adding to the terse and harsh tones in todays debate and discourse?)

I play with Google a lot, and I like archives. This (and the one from a couple days ago) are from here (Minneapolis Public Library, he says without checking the link first).

I think the critical skills of the Boomers have been overrated for years, largely because they've been rating themselves. The 60's, to judge by how tightly an entire generation has clung to it's ideals (i.e., not at all), seems to have been more about fashion, dope and screwing than anything else. How else could one explain the apparent disappearance of the community spirit of the 60's to be replaced with the "fuck you" spirit that seems to be the trademark of the Boomers now? It's as if an entire generation looked at some photographs of themselves in bell-bottoms, tie-dyes and long hair, and went, "urgh, I look ridiculous", and vowed never to flash a peace sign (or believe in peace) again.

Do I exaggerate? Sure I do. But where are those people? They were enough to sway a nation 40 years ago, and I know they're not dead, so where are they???

This country is being run by a 30% minority backed up by a gutless 21% that is more interested in a name ("Republican"), than in the ideas that name supposedly represents (fiscal responsibility, keeping government noses out of personal lives).

Well if you have "haves" somebody has to be the "have nots".

Or so they say down Crawford way.

Shawn, trust you... about what? If you want my e-mail, it's daveawayfromhome at yahoo dot com (that's for anybody, though, not just Shawn), but I dont think you've said anything that would make me suspicious...

Or are you from the NSA? (Hello, Boys!)

Say, if you liked those posters, have you tried the Library of Congress? I especially enjoy the American Memeory Project.
