I'm not sure myself. Maybe it would be better to elect a Republican, and continue the fast decline, so that people can see the changes clearly, and perhaps even turn off the TV and react to them...

Nah. That's probably asking too much.

And BONUS, their destruction is (a little) easier to clean up after too. Although, McCain keeps saying Obama is too much of a rock start to do windows, so who knows?

McCain might want to avoid using the words "window" and "rock" too close to each other, lest anyone get any ideas.

On the other hand, if a story falls in the campaign and nobody reports it, does it make a noise?

This isnt as much about McCain's character as it is about the character of the campaign, but you might include a story about the media's (un)liberal bias. Just because we all know it's true, doesnt mean we all know it's true and can cite evidence to support it.
