simple terms

Here, boiled down to the basics, is why I prefer Democrats to Republicans:

Democrats are all about doing what's possible, however stupid it may be, and however corrupt they may sometimes be while they do it.

Republicans, on the other hand, seem to be all about stopping people from doing what's possible in favor of doing what falls within a narrow definition of what's "right". This makes the standard stupidity and corruption of the political class all the more galling, especially since Republicans seem to feel themselves to be exempt from their own rules about "right" and "wrong".

If you think I'm wrong, look at the current agenda of the Republican Party: Amendments or laws against things; like gay marriage, or flag burning, or immigration, or abortion, or free speech, or whatever.
The exception: Money. Republicans love money. So much so that anything that makes money is A-OK with them, as long as those making the money (as opposed to those doing the work that produces the money) get to keep the money.
That's another thing they're against. A fair distribution of wealth.

And the turly weird thing is that the Republicans are always the ones carping about the dems being against everything.

Is there a looking glass around here that I've fallen through.

You're sounding a little more like normal Dave again. How ya doing?

I was wondering about this lately myself. I started wondering if the exception to the rule isn't porn. I mean, porn makes shedloads of money for anyone involved in it, but the Repubs may actually stick with their principles (the ones where they deny people things because Republicans don't like those things) in this case. I know Phil Gramm, for example, once had some financial involvement with a blue movie or two, but mostly I think they don't want the porn money.

Too bad. It's just as green as the water-polluting money or the worker-exploiting money or the terrorist-arming money. And just as moral.

I agree the Democrats are better than Republicans, but I don't trust either party. Without term limits, very little energy goes into governing. So much money and time goes into campaigning. Third party candidates tend to have a better agenda and truly want to go into office and WORK.

My husband and I had a discussion abotu this last night, largely related to how Lord Bush is quite possibly the worst President in history because he's done so much to destroy the WORLD. We also agreed that Lord Bush had an amazingopportunity to unite the world after 9/11 and chose instead to divide it and our country in as many ways as possible. What a great guy.

I, too, am happy to see that you are more yourself these days!

I am feeling more myself these days. Nothing like a good rant to clear the cobwebs, sinuses, and blues. Why, Rush Limbaugh must be the happiest guy on the planet (no doubt he uses all that viagra, he's so happy).

Chance, Republicans are probably very deeply involved in porn, or at least big customers (see this, or this, or this).
And let's not even discuss the most unregulated industry in the world - recreational drugs. Ask any Republican how to kill a business, big or little, and he'll tell you "regulation!", but suggest that the War on Drugs is failing and it might be time to try legalization and regulation, and they'll try and crucify you.

I am a big fan of term limits and never hear anyone mention them..so I was glad to read united's comment.

The neocons do not follow any of the traditional conservative beliefs..i.e., less government, more states rights to deal with the bullshit and fiscal responsibility..

The neocons motto is: I got mine screw the rest of you..your on your own.

Thanks, Dusty. The problem is, the only people who vote on term limits are the ones who wouldn't benefit from having them. There has to be legal action taken thrrough the court system. We have to prove that they're violating our rights in some way by not imposing term limits. We can use the same argument they used for term limits on Presidents.
