perceptual paradigm?
possibly.

there may be two doors on the duplex, but it's still the same damn houseMaybe I'm mis-remembering, since I was pretty young back then, but it seemed to me that once upon a time, when choosing a President, you got to chose which candidate you liked the best. Then came the Reagan years, and from then on it seemed like you just got to pick the candidate that you disliked the least.

Now here we are running up to the 2008 presidential race, and it's starting to like like we're going to have to choose the candidate which frightens us the least, and that's just sad.

Dave,
You must be too young. There were plenty before Reagan...Carter...Nixon...Johnson and plenty more.

I fear asshats are no a new invention.

Elections have changed. Now, its all negative ads designed to tell you whats wrong with the 'other guy' instead of telling us what they plan to do if and when they are elected.

The first..and best negative ad was LBJ's "Daisy" commercial where the little girl turns into a nuke bomb blast.

Its been down hill ever since.

It's turned into a beauty contest, Dusty. I said this elsewhere, but it's a good meme, so I'll say it again: If we chose our health insurance the way we choose our presidents, it'd all be based on how pretty the cover was and whether it came with a Starbucks* coupon.

*or somesuch.
