Oh dear, Princess Sparklepony may be quitting the blogging game, for much the same reason that I contemplate giving up on politics and devoting this blog to food or science or weird photoshop images or tales of lower middle-class despair*.
* Much like political discussion, but more personal.

It's like this:
1) If a person thinks politics is supposed to be fun, they're probably a fan of Chris Matthews. You can have fun doing it, but politics involves compromise, which means somebody is always giving up on something, and that's not usually fun.
2) Politics has been nasty since Nixon, really. After Tricky Dick quit, a whole ton of Republicans got together under the mantra of, "We will never admit making a mistake ever again." It took them almost 30 years to get back on top, but they did.
3) People use politics to settle petty beefs and scores. The GOP of the 90's didn't hate Clinton's politics as much as they hated him; they were jealous of his charm and appeal. Democrats soured on Bush 43 because they realized he was just trying to make his daddy like him. Hillary and McCain ran for office because, among other things, they felt they were "owed."
4) There's always, always something to make fun of in politics. But it's hard to see that because of #s 2 & 3.
Yeah, I gotta say the same thing strikes me from time to time. That's why I'm varying my content more and using ridicule of the asshats as a preferred method rather than the serious peieces I used to to.
The secret is this...blog because you want to. Blog for yourself and let the audience come as it may. Don't let the bastards comepletely take you out. That's exactly what they're aiming for.
What Poobie said!
He is a wise Cali-dweller, so I trust him on this.
PSP used to get double the comments he gets now, most of us did if you think about it.
People thought The Big O was gonna be the miracle worker..instead of the politician he turned out to be.
I hope he changes his tune on the issues because he doesn't impress me lately. I am not tossing in the towel on the BIg O..just wary of him like I am any other politician.
@ Pryme, re #2: Actually it took them about 6 years, because from the Reagan years on the Republicans have dominated the framing, regardless of who held the reins. They still do. Much of what the Republicans describe as the inability of government to do anything I believe can be traced to the Republicans belief (and the much of the nation's gullibility towards that belief) that government cannot do anything. Government can run programs successfully, if the People hold them to it.
@ Pooby: That's what I was planning. I had written (but not posted) a screed which basically said "fuck all this!", but I was kind of waiting to see what happens with the health care question. I'm not hopeful.
@ Dusty: Obama is a big part of why I'm losing Hope®. I figure, too, that I am only one of many, and that many will be enough to cost the Democrats dearly in 2010, if only in terms of disappointed indifference and the accompanying lack of voting.
