question

Why is BP getting any kind of consideration from the U.S. government? It is a foreign company, which came to our shores, and is now ruining them. Yet the possibility remains that American taxpayers will be paying for most of the mess, not the foreign company that made it.

Addendum: On second thought, I consider Iraq, and realize we have nothing to say about oil companies fucking up someone else's country. Except for the part about our taxes paying for it. That still applies.

Why does ANY company get consideration if they screw up? How many times has a company rampantly overbilled or may shoddy crap and then the government NEGOTIATES as settlement with them.

To me, if they broke it, they bought it. No negotiation at all is my motto!

I was just thinking how Republicans get so bent out of shape about helping out ordinary people, screaming "socialism!" at the suggestion. But should a company screw up, then it's millions from the public dole with nary a whimper, often given by the same folks who begrudge giving a single mom a few hundred bucks so her kids can eat.
