just sad

I was talking to my step-son today, and he mentioned a friend of his who could tell you the height of each of the Marvel comic-book characters. I said, oh lovely, but I'll bet he couldnt name even four Supreme Court justices.
Said The Boy, "He couldnt even name one! I dont think I can either."

I made him vote in the last election, and now I am frightened.

Americans are incredibly uninformed about their government, but as his step-father, I would hope tha you discuss politics and the importance of making good political discussions with him.

Yeah, but do you know exactly how big George's ears are?

Hah! I thought not!

No, 'fraid not. Most of my political talk results in eye-rolling and room-leaving. Maybe I do it wrong, but mostly it's for the same reason I encounter everywhere: too unpleasant, dont want to bother / think about it, just a lot of nonsense, what can I do about it anyway?

We want freedom? Well, I guess that includes the freedom to throw it away, it's just to bad that one person's thrown away freedom is another person's stolen freedom is everyone's lost freedom.

And maybe it doesnt matter? Read the Rolling Stone lately?

Whoops! Poobah's comment appeared while I was writing mine (bad Dave! preview first!), so it looks like the "'fraid not" is adressed to him, but it's not.
