small car blues

Why cant we buy this car in the U.S.? It's made by GM, a company that otherwise seems to be struggling, the Europeans seem to feel it's safe enough, it sells all over the rest of the world, and it seems to be just the kind of car that a $4-a-gallon nation needs. So where is it? Are we waiting for China to export that to us also?

None of the new efficient cars are affordable for me. I recently purchased a car and looked high and low for even a used one that wasn't priced out of my market.

So frankly, I don't give a shit if we can buy it here. Unless and until the govt gives US money back to purchase a green car, it will only be well off bleeding hearts that can buy them.

This thing isnt particularly green, it's just small. It's got a 3 cylinder engine. It's cheap transportation, used in a lot of poorer nations as taxicabs. I dont need a Prius, though that might be nice, and I'd build my own electric out of an old beater if it was affordable (and I had time). I'd settle for a cheap car that got 40 mpg or so. When my wife's car is paid off, I may buy a Kia Rio. They're cheap (less than half the price of my wife's Sante Fe) and claim 40 mpg, and since lately Korea's been taking lessons from the Japanese rather than us, their cars are a lot more reliable.
